Short Stacks.
Just completed: these two small book stack sculptures that came together serendipitously, as most art does. Plodding through piles of books on the floor and on shelves, the choices were almost made for me as I selected specimens. Every facet of a book’s physicality enamors me, and I love the fact that books have the anthropomorphic feature of spines. “Greenback” focuses on those spines, uncovered as if in their undergarments with threads loose, and the ridges of signatures revealed. “Presto” centers around two spines with their titled covers making a bit of word play. The other thing I cherish: colored fore edges, as seen in the lower three books.
